	Luís Caldas de Oliveira was born in Lisbon, 1962, received the Licenciado, Mestre, Doutor degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from [http://www.ist.utl.pt/ Instituto Superior Técnico] (IST) of the Technical University of Lisbon (1985, 1989, 1997). For over 25 years, he has been teaching courses on circuit theory, signal theory, signal processing, speech processing to students of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Aerospace Engineering at IST. Since 2009 he has also been teaching courses on entrepreneurship and technology transfer. From 1985 to 2000 he was researcher of INESC and is now a member of the Spoken Language Systems Laboratory of [http://www.inesc-id.pt/ INESC-ID]. His Master and PhD thesis were on the area of speech processing and, particularly, in speech synthesis and production. He has been involved on several research and technology transfer projects, sponsored by the industry, the Portuguese Science Foundation and the European Commission. Among them: SVIT (1995-1999), the automation of the directory assistance service of Portugal Telecom, CITE-IV (1999-2000) augmentative communication tools, Tecnovoz (2006-2008) and E-Circus (2006-2008) education through characters with emotional intelligence. During his term, INESC-ID budget changed from 1.9 M€ (2003) to 4.1 M€ (2009) and spun-off 4 start-up companies. In this position he put in place the technology transfer area of IST, including the creation of the corporate partnerships unit and the intellectual property unit.
