Diamantino Caseiro graduated in Informatics and Computer Engineering in 1994 from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Lisbon. He received an MSc degree in 1998, on automatic language identification, and a PhD degree in 2003 on finite-state methods in automatic speech recognition, both from IST.
He has been a lecturer at this University since 2000, teaching human computer interfaces, advanced algorithms and compilers. He has been a researcher at the Speech Processing Group of INESC since 1996. He is currently a senior researcher at the Spoken Language Systems Lab (L2F) of INESC-ID that resulted from the reorganization of the previous group.
His current research interests are: automatic speech recognition, statistical machine translation (in particular speech-to-speech translation), and in general integrating knowledge-based information with data-driven methods in different fields of natural language processing. In the past, he has participated in several European and National projects, and is currently the principal investigator of a national project on applying weighted finite-state transducers to spoken language processing. He is a member of ISCA (International Speech Communication Association), ACM and the IEEE Computer Society.
