The HLT lab provides an interdisciplinary and creative work environment active in multiple areas of speech and language research. These include (without limitation):

* music genre classification, audio finger-printing and retrieval, multi-document summarization of multimedia (audio + video + text)
* machine translation, summarization, sentiment analysis
* natural language generation, syntactic and semantic processing, named entity retrieval
* multimodal dialogue systems, question answering, etc.

Encontra-se aberto concurso para atribuição de três Bolsas de Investigação no âmbito do projecto Europeu I-DASH (SIP-2007-TP-131703) – The Investigator's Dashboard, nas seguintes condições:
 
# Duração e Regime de Actividade: Duração de 6 meses, com início previsto para 1 de Setembro de 2008, prorrogável por períodos de 3 meses, em regime de exclusividade, conforme regulamento de bolsas do IST.
# Objecto de Actividade e Orientação Científica: O objectivo do trabalho é a contribuição para o processamento do sinal áudio no projecto I-DASH, nomeadamente no que diz respeito à detecção do género do orador (masculino/feminino/criança).
# Orientação Científica: Prof. Isabel Trancoso, IST / INESC-ID.<br/>Os bolseiros serão integrados no Laboratório de Sistemas de Língua Falada do INESC-ID (www.l2f.inesc-id.pt).
# Formação Académica: As bolsas destinam-se a estudantes finalistas, Licenciados ou Mestres em Engenharia Electrotécnica e de Computadores ou em Engenharia Informática e de Computadores. Será dada preferência a candidatos que tenham conhecimentos e experiência na área do processamento da fala ou que queiram prosseguir investigação nesta área.
# Remuneração: De acordo com a tabela de valores das Bolsas do IST.
# Documentos de Candidatura: As candidaturas devem incluir um curriculum vitae do candidato e uma carta de motivação.
# Data de início e de conclusão do prazo do Concurso: 11 a 24 de Agosto de 2008.
