INESC ID's Spoken Language Systems Laboratory (L²F - Laboratório de sistemas de Língua Falada) was created in January 2001, bringing together several research groups which could potentially add relevant contributions to the area of computational processing of spoken language for Portuguese. Participation in Conferences: On February 20-26, 2011 Ana Cristina Mendes attended the 12th International Conference on Intelligent Text Processing and Computational Linguistics (CICLing), in Tokyo, Japan On December 2-3, 2010 Luísa Coheur, Tiago Luís and Wang Ling attended the International Workshop on Spoken Language Translation (IWSLT 2010), in Maison de la Chimie- Paris (France)		Call for Participation - 1st Lisbon Machine Learning School - "Learning For the Web" LxMLS 2011 will take place July 20-25 at Instituto Superior Técnico, a leading Engineering and Science school in Portugal. It is organized jointly by IST, the Instituto de Telecomunicações and the Spoken Language Systems Lab - L2F of INESC-ID. IEEE Fellow - Prof. Isabel Trancoso The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, IEEE, appointed Prof. Isabel Trancoso as a Fellow of this prestigious institution. Gender Sub-Challenge Prize - The INESC-ID gender detection system won the international evaluation that was promoted in the scope of InterSpeech 2010. Open Research Position in project Aria Research Opportunities - The Spoken Language Systems Lab is looking for students interested in pursuing a PhD in Language Technologies. Post-Doc positions are also open. The typical PhD program in our lab is held in cooperation with international Universities (currently with Univ. Rochester, New York University, University of Pennsylvania). Cooperations are being established with École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne and CMU. New Patent - The patent by João Neto and João Miranda on a new method for lexical model / language model composition for automatic speech recognition was recently approved.

VoiceInteraction S.A. is a technology based company born in April 2008 as a spin-off from INESC-ID Lisboa. Its primary goal is to develop speech processing technologies. VoiceInteraction team is composed by researchers coming from INESC-ID Lisboa Spoken Language Systems Lab (L2F/INESC-ID) that have worked in the TECNOVOZ project (ADI/PRIME/03/165 - 2006/2008).
