INESC ID's Spoken Language Systems Laboratory (L²F - Laboratório de sistemas de Língua Falada) was created in January 2001, bringing together several research groups which could potentially add relevant contributions to the area of computational processing of spoken language for Portuguese.		Past events: On July 29th, 2011 Ramón Astudillo presented Towards Environmentally Robust Speech Applications On June 28th, 2011 Maxine Eskenazi led an informal discussion on crowdsourcing. Participation in Conferences: On July 27-31 Ana Cristina Mendes, Alberto Abad and Annamaria Pompili attended EMNLP 2011: Conference on Empirical Methods in Natural Language Processing, in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. On July 16-22 Luísa Coheur attended the 22nd International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence, in Barcelona, Spain		On June 27-29, 2011 L²F received the visit of Prof. Maxine Eskenazi from the Language Technologies Institute of Carnegie Mellon University (CMU/LTI) 1st Lisbon Machine Learning School - "Learning For the Web" LxMLS 2011 took place July 20-25 at Instituto Superior Técnico, a leading Engineering and Science school in Portugal. It is organized jointly by IST, the Instituto de Telecomunicações and the Spoken Language Systems Lab - L2F of INESC-ID. Outstanding Paper Award - Nuno Homem and João Paulo Carvalho received the outstanding paper award at the 30th Annual Conference of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society (NAFIPS 2011) with the paper Authorship Identification and Author Fingerprints. IEEE Fellow - Prof. Isabel Trancoso The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, IEEE, appointed Prof. Isabel Trancoso as a Fellow of this prestigious institution. Gender Sub-Challenge Prize - The INESC-ID gender detection system won the international evaluation that was promoted in the scope of InterSpeech 2010. Research Opportunities - The Spoken Language Systems Lab is looking for students interested in pursuing a PhD in Language Technologies. Post-Doc positions are also open. The typical PhD program in our lab is held in cooperation with international Universities (currently with Univ. Rochester, New York University, University of Pennsylvania). Cooperations are being established with École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne and CMU.

VoiceInteraction S.A. is a technology based company born in April 2008 as a spin-off from INESC-ID Lisboa. Its primary goal is to develop speech processing technologies. VoiceInteraction team is composed by researchers coming from INESC-ID Lisboa Spoken Language Systems Lab (L2F/INESC-ID) that have worked in the TECNOVOZ project (ADI/PRIME/03/165 - 2006/2008).
